WHAT IS A SMRO AND THEIR IMPORTANCE

SMRO is an acronym for State Motorcycle Rights Organization. They are organizations comprised of individuals who are dedicated to insuring personal liberties in our legislature. They are dedicated to maintaining the lifestyle of motorcycling by working legislatively to promote motorcycle awareness and road safety, and regaining lost liberties.

SMRO’s across America are the MAIN DEFENSE for the motorcycling public. They lobby legislators to enact laws that favorable impact the motorcycling community as well as monitor and fight any legislation that would adversely affect it. SMRO are active in promoting ways to make the roads safer for motorcyclists.

ABATE of Florida, Inc. is Florida’s only SMRO. It is a non-profit organization who lobbies for Freedom and Safety on the road.

Just as everything else in life is governed, so are your rights to enjoy the open road. Taking for granted the right to take your motorcycle for an afternoon ride is your first mistake.

Did you know that without ABATE of Florida, Inc. and its’ political force that our government would:

• Have limited the customization of your motorcycle
• Have regulated the “allowable clothing” to wear while riding a motorcycle
• Allowed insurance companies to Triple your insurance premiums on both your motorcycle and your vehicle
• Allowed your carrier to put a clause in your coverage that if injured while riding your motorcycle, you would not be covered

ABATE of Florida, Inc. was the driving force behind the changes in Florida’s Helmet Law. Florida motorcyclists, over the age of 21, and who carry at least $10,000 medical coverage, now enjoy the Freedom to Choose whether to wear a helmet or not.

ABATE of Florida, Inc. has developed and copyrighted “The Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Program’’ (MSAP). The program is presented to non-motorcyclists to educate them on how to safely share the road with motorcycles. It is taught at local schools and civic organizations at no charge in the hope of reducing motorcycle accidents and deaths through education, not legislation.
